History of Hotshot Trucking in America

Hot Shot trucking is for cargo that is smaller and usually rushed. Many companies needing that service sublease a truck with a contract driver or a freelance independent driver to complete perhaps only one run, or for many runs over time, for situations that have turned into a crisis. “Hot shot trucking” designates promptness at doing the job immediately. No job is too big or too small, as may be so with other companies.

“Hot shot trucking” is given to rigs smaller than the usual semi-truck and trailer and also refers to a move less than a truckload (LTL) of goods, rather than have those goods wait as a partial load for a bigger rig and not be able to be delivered as quickly.

Many companies will acknowledge that they started out with just one truck and a good-sized trailer and that over time their history reflects that they increased the number and type of services offered and the size of their fleet. That could go from utility trailers for small stuff to 53-foot flatbeds to heavy-duty lowboys for big heavy stuff.

Some companies have added renting and delivering equipment to the site and offering a diverse inventory of needed items such as backhoes, excavators, skid-steers, maintainers, forklifts, man lifts, motor graders, reach forks, and others.

History has shown that the hot shot trucking sector has grown and expanded into a global economy and provides a great income to thousands of drivers. Trucking is a multi-billion dollar industry.
